What Causes Limescale in stainless steel teapot?
Limescale is caused by a build-up of calcium and magnesium minerals in hard water.
How to Prevent Limescale Build-Up?
-Rinse and dry the whistling kettle thoroughly after each use to prevent any hard water from drying. Leaving water in the stovetop teapot after use will encourage limescale to build up
How to Remove Limescale Build-Up from the Kettle?
Use either lemon or vinegar with water to clean and remove limescale from your kettle:
1) Fill the stainless tea kettle ¾ full with either water and one lemon, or with equal parts water and household vinegar
2) Let it soak for one hour
3) Boil the kettle (three times for lemon, once for vinegar)
4) Allow it to cool, then rinse thoroughly several times
5) Boil the kettle again to ensure there is no aftertaste
To avoid rust as long as possible, turn the kettle upside down in your drainboard or kitchen sink, with the lid off. It will dry out quicker and reduce the chance of rusting.
